{"id":3195,"date":"2024-08-09T11:04:06","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T11:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blockwind.news\/china\/2024\/08\/09\/fidelity-plans-nft-marketplace-and-financial-services-in-the-metaverse\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T17:14:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T17:14:46","slug":"fidelity-plans-nft-marketplace-and-financial-services-in-the-metaverse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blockwind.news\/china\/2024\/08\/09\/fidelity-plans-nft-marketplace-and-financial-services-in-the-metaverse\/","title":{"rendered":"Fidelity plans NFT marketplace and financial services in the metaverse"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">December 29, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Anjali Kochhar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investment giant Fidelity Investments has filed trademark applications in the United States for Web3 products and services, including a nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace and financial investment and crypto trading services in the metaverse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/trademarks\"><u>trademark<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;filings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/trademarks\">submitted<\/a>&nbsp;to the United States Patent Trademark Office (USPTO) on Dec. 21, this was highlighted by licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis in a Dec. 27 tweet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the key areas of the firm\u2019s focus appears to be the metaverse, with Fidelity indicating that it could offer a wide range of investment services within virtual worlds including mutual funds, retirement funds, investment management and financial planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As per the filings, metaverse-based payment services could be in the works, including electronic bill payments, fund transfers and the \u201cfinancial administration of credit card accounts in the metaverse and other virtual worlds.\u201d<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The filings further indicate that the firm could launch trading and management services in the metaverse, along with providing virtual currency wallet services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cElectronic wallet services in the nature of electronic storage and processing of virtual currency for electronic payments and transactions via a global computer network; digital currency, virtual currency, cryptocurrency digital token,\u201d the filing reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, Fidelity outlines that it could offer educational services in the metaverse in the form of \u201cconducting classes, workshops, seminars and conferences in the field of investments and in the field of marketing financial services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cProviding business information to financial service providers by means of an internet web site, in the field of business marketing in the metaverse and other virtual worlds; referral services in the field of investment advice and financial planning in the metaverse and other virtual worlds,\u201d one filing reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NFTs are also in Fidelity&#8217;s plans, with the investment manager stating that it could launch an \u201conline marketplace for buyers and sellers of digital media, namely, non-fungible tokens.\u201d However, further details on such are sparse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>About the author<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anjali Kochhar covers cryptocurrency stories in India as well as globally.
