{"id":2785,"date":"2024-08-09T10:14:08","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T10:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blockwind.news\/china\/2024\/08\/09\/russian-regulation-for-nfts-could-come-through-proposed-amendments-to-existing-laws\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T18:54:57","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T18:54:57","slug":"russian-regulation-for-nfts-could-come-through-proposed-amendments-to-existing-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blockwind.news\/china\/2024\/08\/09\/russian-regulation-for-nfts-could-come-through-proposed-amendments-to-existing-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian regulation for NFTs could come through proposed amendments to existing laws"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>August 1, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By Sharan Kaur Phillora<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Economic Development in Moscow has numerous amendments planned to regulate non-fungible tokens (NFTs), looking to amend the Civil Code and the law \u201cOn Digital Financial Assets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s what we know:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news came from a meeting of a special working group held on the initiative of the ministry, Bitcoin.com reported Wednesday (July 27), and the discussions saw participants providing legal definitions for NFTs attended by representatives from the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) and Vkontakte, a Russian social media site, which announced that it wanted to support blockchains and NFTs on its platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bank of Russia said the Ministry of Economy shouldn\u2019t be working on the issues of digital token regulations. Instead, those issues should be dealt with by the Bank and the Finance Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russian officials want to expand the country\u2019s crypto and tokens regulations. Currently, that mainly consists of the \u201cOn Digital Financial Assets\u201d law from January 2021, which introduced the terms \u201cdigital financial assets,\u201d which partly encompasses cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrey Tugarin, the managing partner at GMT Legal, said, \u201cThe functionality of NFTs is not limited to digital art for a long time. They can act as tickets to events or as a form of securing ownership of virtual property, and as a security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development came as many Russians were actively using crypto, transacting around $5 billion every year.
