Standard Chartered has introduced a tokenized deposit solution that enables corporate clients to transfer funds seamlessly from traditional bank ledgers onto blockchain infrastructure.

The bank has rolled out tokenized SGD and USD account balances for Ant International on its blockchain-based, real-time global treasury management platform, Whale. This follows the successful completion of trials involving SGD-denominated tokenized liquidity transfers for the company.

The new use case focuses on improving financial market efficiency and liquidity through tokenization and builds on insights gained from the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) Project Guardian initiative. The solution was co-developed with Ant International, a long-standing partner of Standard Chartered in blockchain tokenization projects.

With this solution, Ant International can future-proof its treasury operations by enabling real-time, 24/7 movement of value in both SGD and USD. It allows the company to deploy liquidity more efficiently across its group entities while enhancing working capital and treasury management.

The launch represents a key milestone in Standard Chartered’s broader tokenization strategy, which aims to set an industry benchmark for how commercial banks can facilitate the transfer of cash from conventional banking systems onto blockchain networks. It also demonstrates how corporates can benefit from the efficiency, transparency, and immutability inherent in distributed ledger technology.

The tokenized deposit solution supports transactions in SGD and USD in Singapore, as well as HKD, CNH, and USD in Hong Kong. By enabling near-instant settlement in familiar currencies across multiple markets, the solution is particularly suited to global businesses engaged in cross-border transactions that require continuous, real-time liquidity management.
