This year’s Global Data Ecosystem Conference, held in Shanghai, centered on blockchain technology and its innovative applications across various sectors. Shen Zhulin, the deputy head of the National Data Administration, emphasized at the conference, which took place from October 19 to 20, that Shanghai has the potential to lead in the exploration of advanced technologies, particularly in blockchain and data spaces.
He noted that the city is among a select few in China designated to initiate trials aimed at significantly lowering data circulation and transaction costs while ensuring a secure, compliant, and orderly flow of data. The conference, organized by Yicai for the fourth consecutive year, was co-hosted by the Shanghai Data Group and the Shanghai Data Service Provider Association, with backing from the Shanghai Data Bureau and the Pudong district government.
This event highlighted advancements in the digital economy and served as a platform for innovation within the digital business ecosystem, as well as a venue for international data collaboration. Additionally, the National Data Group Alliance, the first organization in China to advocate for equal rights among data groups, was launched during the event to foster partnerships among data companies nationwide and accelerate the growth of the data industry.
By enhancing international data exchange and cooperation, the conference established a continuous mechanism for collaboration with global organizations, including the Hong Kong Chamber of Data & Digital Commerce Organizing Committee, SGTech, Singapore’s leading tech trade association, and the International Data Spaces Association.
This initiative aims to better support local digital enterprises in their global endeavors and facilitate the entry of international data businesses into the market. Looking ahead, Shanghai plans to further enhance the sharing and accessibility of public data, innovate in the development and utilization of public data, create a favorable digital business ecosystem, and advance the establishment of international data centers.
Shanghai’s core digital economy was worth more than CNY600 billion (USD84.5 billion) last year, according to the city’s data bureau.
