Non-fungible tokens or NFTs has been a buzzword in 2022. Not only it created a trend, but also job roles for those interested in the Web3 space. And 2023 will have even more job roles in this space, going by predictions and the increasing interest of people in this space.
But, the question arises when speaking about job security. While job roles in the NFT space are on a significant rise, do people have trust in the future of NFTs? Will they let marry their daughter to someone who has an NFT job or let their child work as an NFT marketer? We were curious to know so asked some of the industry-known people and here is what they had to say.
In a report released by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, the number of jobs posted related to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has increased since December 2021.
GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database reveals that, for over 300 companies tracked during the last two quarters, NFT-related jobs open for application (active jobs) increased by 127%, from 172 in December 2021 to 390 in March 2022. The job roles were focused around developing NFT online stores and digital assets.
The database identified NFT-related job roles. For example, Reddit is developing digital tools for users to create and sell their own NFTs on its platform. Its ‘Group Product Manager of Future NFT Marketplace’ looks to train product managers on go-to-market strategies, for increased product adoption and engagement.
Kraken Bitcoin Exchange is hiring its engineering team to build and launch an NFT marketplace, to leverage assets for services such as NFT-backed loans.
Accenture is exploring multiparty systems involving blockchain, protecting sensitive financial information (tokenization), and NFTs to help clients with technology solutions. Gameloft is hiring blockchain developers to build NFT games.
According to Investopedia, NFTs are cryptographic assets on a blockchain with unique identification codes and metadata that distinguish them from each other.
These digital assets have gained immense popularity among netizens. From individuals to brands, everyone loves the several real-world use cases of NFTs. Even though the market seems down, the craze for investing in NFTs is not going anywhere soon, say the experts.
What’s the future? Experts talk
Amanjot Malhotra, Country Head for India at Bitay, wants his child to prepare for an NFT job role as much as he has ever wanted him to prepare for a government or a banking role as he believes NFTs holds the future.
“Government jobs and banking jobs were among the most important professions in the and people wanted their children to get one as soon as they grew up and have a safe future. Do you think that is the case today? In some parts of the country, yes but the notion is changing really fast as these jobs are not that lucrative compared to Software development jobs of today. And when we say NFT jobs then these jobs are basically IT jobs but for the NFT/Crypto space which is again futuristic,” he told NFTMetta.
“In the same way, NFT jobs will have a lot of value in the future and I would want my child to prepare for the future rather than something of the past. As we see so many big companies venturing into NFTs such as Nike, Adidas, Coca Cola they would want seasoned talent and whosoever entered the space earlier will get remuneration from these companies.”
Asked if he would allow his daughter to marry someone with an NFT job, Malhotra said, “We are moving towards a volatile world and I don’t mind my daughter marrying someone with an NFT job in the future. What would matter to me is how irreplaceable his skills are and how quickly can he adapt to the future? As the future is volatile, we all will experience the same one way or the other, and the only way to hedge against the risk is to embrace the future.”
Kamleshwaran Elangovan, cofounder and chief operating officer at GuardianLink, believes that working in the NFT domain is as rewarding and as demanding. And needless to say, as dignified as being in any other profession, leave alone the technical one. In fact, the world of NFTs believes that every skill is equal and monetizable if there was no barrier between the creator and the consumer, he adds.
“Considering all these factors, it would only be right and justified to treat working with NFTs like any other profession… Not only on the surface but also in terms of the long-term prospects with respect to career and the short-term aspects with respect to remuneration,” Elangovan told NFTMetta.
Dileep Seinberg, founder and CEO, MuffinPay, Crypto NeoBank, calls marriage a personal call, adding, “We believe every sector will see an impact of global downturn and NFT space is not spared of that. Even top-tier IT companies like Google, and Amazon are laying off employees. So, it is the quality of the work that matters at the end.”
Ashish Kulkarni, Co-Founder of ClassAvatar, believes as Web 3 evolves, the application of NFTs will exponentially rise and will become absolutely mainstream.
“With the advent of Metaversities (Digital twins of Universities & Schools) kids will be introduced to NFT’s from a very early age. The conventional drawing class that students undertake with paints and paper, will be undertaken immersively with digital tools in the Metaverse. To give you an example, the teacher can unleash the kids’ natural curiosity and creativity by asking them to draw a creature that has the mixed physical attributes of an animal, bird and fish,” he added
