While the excitement around NFTs (non-fungible tokens) refuses to fade away, the year 2022 has put digital assets and those who own them under pressure.
Neymar Jr., the renowned Brazilian footballer, who entered the world of NFTs in January, is currently nursing a loss in his NFT investments owing to the ongoing crypto winter.
Early this year, Neymar had invested nearly $1 million to acquire two NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection and had flaunted one of the apes as his Twitter account profile picture.
At this time, the Brazilian soccer star’s Bored Apes’ valuation is around $340,000.
Other big names who have suffered losses with their NFT investments include Eminem, Madonna, DJ Steve Aoki, and Logan Paul, among others.
Eminem was also allured by NFTs and had forayed into this space. In January, he bought a Bored Ape for around $462,000, which now values at around $140,000.
DJ Steve Aoki, the popular musician has also suffered losses at the hands of NFTs.
Logan Paul had purchased an Azuki NFT for $623,000, which now values at a mere $10.
The initial craze behind these NFTs has plunged. Many people have questioned NFT’s long-term viability. However, only time will tell what lies in the fate of NFTs.
